How it works

Three steps, once. After that it turns up every week on its own.

  1. Tell it about your pub

Type your pub’s name, your town and your quiz night.

  2. It writes four rounds

Your town, this week in history, the news, and odd facts. Ten questions each.

  3. It lands in your inbox

Two days before quiz night, ready to print. Swap anything you don’t fancy.

Try your town

Type a town or village and get three real questions about it, with answers and sources. Three tries each.

What’s in a quiz

Four rounds of ten. One real question from each:

Round 1 · Your town

From the Wikipedia pages for your town and the places, buildings and people within about six miles.

Which Norman baron built Skipton Castle in 1090?Robert de Romille

Round 2 · This week in history

What happened on the seven days from your quiz night, in years gone by.

In 2005, the discovery of which two moons of Pluto was announced?Nix and Hydra

Round 3 · In the news

From the stories in the news and the pages people read most over the past week.

Which baseball team beat the Tampa Bay Rays to win the World Series?Milwaukee Brewers

Round 4 · Did you know?

The odd facts that start an argument at table six.

People in Britain were once paid to eat funeral food. What were they called?Sin-eaters

Where the facts come from

Every question is built from a passage of Wikipedia, and the answer sheet links to it, so a disputed answer can be settled at the bar. Wikipedia’s text is used under CC BY-SA 4.0, and each sheet credits it.

It’s for pubs

Sold to pubs, clubs and venues as businesses, not to the public. There are no music or picture rounds, because those need licences and rights.

One plan. Everything in it.

Questions, answered

Where do the questions come from?

Each one is written from a passage of Wikipedia, and the answer has to appear in that passage. The answer sheet links to the source, so you can settle an argument.

How does it know about my town?

It reads the Wikipedia pages for your town and the places, buildings and people within about six miles of it.

What if my village is tiny?

It widens out to the places around you, so the round may be about the valley rather than the village. The nearest town usually has plenty.

Will I get the same questions twice?

No. It remembers every question your pub has had and doesn’t repeat one.

Can I change a question?

Yes. Press Swap on any question and you get a new one from the same round.

Can people look up the answers on their phones?

They can with any quiz. A local round is harder to look up in a hurry, but that’s for your house rules.

How much is it?

£19 a month. The first 7 days are free and no card is needed. Cancel at any time. It’s sold to businesses only.

Where does the data come from?

All of it from Wikipedia: its pages about places near you, its “On this day” list, its “In the news” stories, its most-read pages and its “Did you know” facts. The text is used under CC BY-SA 4.0, and every sheet carries the line “Facts from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0”.

Have Sunday back.

Your first round about your own town is on screen in about a minute.
